The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritise education.

Adesina made this promise on Saturday, at the annual inter-school debate competition, organised by the council in partnership with Kaodwad and Associates in Ikorodu, Lagos.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that 16 public secondary schools are participating in the ongoing three-week competition.

Adesina emphasised that the debate competitions would promote educational excellence and intellectual competition among students, building their confidence and encouraging them to compete academically with peers from other regions.

“The competition enables students to engage in intellectually stimulating conversations on topical national issues, with winners receiving scholarships and prizes to support and develop their creativity.”

Adesina highlighted his achievements in improving the educational sector, including: school infrastructure development, construction and rehabilitation of school facilities, distribution of essential materials to schools and provision of free GCE forms to 100 students.

He said plans were on the way to establish computer units in all 16 public schools to enhance digital literacy and learning experiences.

Adesina urged philanthropists to support the sector in developing youths interested in building education careers.

“We urge well-meaning individuals and NGOs to contribute to educational initiatives, as the government cannot do it all alone,” he said.

Mr Adeyinka Owodunni, Executive Director of the NGO, advised youths to take their education seriously, emphasising the need for sound education to become leaders.

“Government alone cannot do it; that’s why we’re doing everything possible to support the sector as an NGO,” he said.

Mr Adedeji Owolabi, Head of Education Department in the council, commended the Chairman for his unwavering commitment to education, benefiting many young scholars.

Two students Zainab Adigun and Adedeji Fadiya, appreciated the council boss for the competition, which would enhance their academic excellence.

Ipakodo Grammar School, Odogunyan Grammar School, and Luwasa High School competed at the commencement to advance to the next level.
