Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Umar Na’abba has refuted reports making the rounds in the media that he had passed away.
Social media and conventional media platforms were awash with the unconfirmed report of the death of the consummate politician from Kano.
But the second speaker of the lower legislative in the fourth republic took to the national assembly legislative forum WhatsApp group to refute the report.
Na’abba who is currently in London, in refuting the report, said he was alive, hale and hearty, he added that he would be back in Nigeria as soon as the flight embargo was lifted.
He said “For the information of all my colleagues, I’m hale and hearty here in London. I will be back in Abuja as soon as flights are available.”
Kano has witnessed mass deaths in recent times which causes are yet to be ascertained.
Amongst these dead people are high profile individuals.
About Ghali Na’abba
In training, practice and expertise, Na’Abba is a consummate political scientist and a profound policy architect. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1979. His early education was at Jakara Primary School, Kano where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1969. He later attended Rumfa College, Kano for his West African School Certificate and was also at School of Preliminary Studies, Kano, between 1974 and 1976, before gaining admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in October, 1976.
He joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998 during its incipient period. He emerged the party’s candidate in April 1999 National Assembly election in Kano Municipal Federal Constituency of Kano state and won the election to represent the Federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
Na’abba became the speaker house of representatives on July 22, 1999 following the resignation of his predecessor, Salisu Buhari, over alleged misdemeanours.
Na’abba’s tenure as Speaker of the was characterised as the golden era of legislative independence and revolutionary idea.
His ability to erect a solid foundation for the House to excel after 16 years of military rule is also instructive of his ingenuity.
