EKO HOT BLOG reports that the appointment follows the redeployment of the former SPRO, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration KT Udo, who has been posted as the Passport Control Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command.
Akinlabi, who hails from Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, is a seasoned immigration officer with extensive experience in public service. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 2003 and 2015, respectively.
Enlisted into the Nigeria Immigration Service on December 29, 2006, Akinlabi completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano, in December 2007. Over the years, he has undergone specialized training in migration, security, and border management.
During his service, Akinlabi worked at the Service Headquarters, gaining experience in multiple directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and Travel Documents. He was also a pioneer staff member of the NIS Contact Centre, where he rose to become Second-in-Command at the SERVICOM Unit, a role closely linked to public relations activities.
Before his new appointment, Akinlabi recently concluded his tenure as an Immigration Attaché at the Embassy of Nigeria in The Hague, Netherlands. His appointment as the Service Public Relations Officer takes immediate effect, and he is expected to leverage his expertise to enhance the public image of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
