EKO HOT BLOG reports that The Labour Party (LP) has announced a reduction in the price of the party’s nomination form fee for the Imo governorship race.
The spokesperson for the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo who confirmed it in a series of tweets on Tuesday said the cost has been reviewed from N25 million to N15 million.
Earlier, Okonkwo had on Monday reacted to speculations that the party is set to peg its governorship nomination form fee at N25 million.
He said the speculation is not true and runs contrary to the ideals of the party.
Naija News reports there had been rumours that the Labour Party pegged its governorship form for Imo state at N25 million and the development has been attracting mixed reactions.
However, taking to his Twitter page on Monday, Okonkwo said the public should rest assured Labour Party won’t go that way.
The actor cum politician said the alleged N25m is exorbitant and will not be encouraged because a new Nigeria will not be possible with such a development.
He added that the party would find an acceptable nomination fee for the people of Nigeria as competent leadership is better than encouraging moneybags to grab power.
On Tuesday, he confirmed in a statement that the fee has been reviewed downward.
He wrote: “After due consultation with all the relevant stakeholders in the Party, and taking into consideration the overwhelming interest of Nigerians in our Party, and the necessity to birth a new Nigeria, and in view of the prevailing high cost of things in Nigeria, in line with our avowed disposition to carry Nigerians along in what we do, the Party has decided to review the cost of nomination forms downwards for all positions taking into consideration the suggested amount of N15m for the post of Governor.
“We must move together to salvage our country from incompetent and dishonest leadership of the old order.”
The party’s governorship primaries have been billed to hold next month, with 13 aspirants securing Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms so far.
Among those who are eying the Labour Party governorship ticket and have secured the Nomination Forms are: Major General Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (retd), Senator Athan Achonu, Martin Agbaso, Barr Humphrey Anumudu, Chief Joseph Ukaegbu, Dr Tochi J.Ehirim, Rt Hon Ike Ibe, Rt Hon Kelechi Nwagwu, Dr Basil Maduka, Engr Chinedu Amadi, AIG Charles Agomuo (retd), Capt David Mbamara and Chief C.Ishiguzo.
