Imo State Speaker, Majority Leader Join APC After Ihedioha’s Removal

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Collins Chiji has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress following the sack of Emeka Ihedioha as Governor.

Defecting along with him was the Majority Leader of the House, Chigozie Nwaneri who also left the PDP to join APC.

Six others joined the two House leaders to exit the party. They are Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West) Chigozie Nwaneri(Oru East), Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West), Kennedy Ibe (Obowo) Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma) and Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise).

The Speaker who announced the defections in a plenary that lasted 15 minutes on Tuesday did not give reasons for his defection but it will not be unconnected with the fact that the party has been disintegrating since Ihedioha’s sack.

It will be recalled that the state chairman of the party had resigned and joined the APC on Monday, leading to a number of party faithfuls leaving as well.
