The United States on Wednesday recorded it highest daily COVID-19 related deaths with over 3,000 people dying from the virulent infection in 24 hours.
Last week, the US set a high record of 2,804 COVID-19 deaths, smashing the previous record of 2,607 deaths confirmed on April 15.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the latest figures also set a new record of higest single-day toll globally.
Data from the Johns Hopkins University tracker showed that 3,124 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the US on Wednesday.
A total of 221,276 new cases were also confirmed on the same day, bringing the total number of recorded cases to 15.4 million.

A total of 289,970 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in the US, the highest in the world.
This development is coming two weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday period when health experts warned Americans to avoid travelling or large gatherings.
