The NDSEJ, through its Convener, Chief Alfred Ebikeme, and Secretary, Prince Victor Ogie Osagie, urged the APC leaders from the region to consider and support a southerner to emerge as the Senate president. They emphasized that Nigeria cannot achieve peace and development without equity and justice in the distribution of political offices.

The group noted that while they have a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs eyeing the Senate presidency of the 10th National Assembly, the choice of the next Senate President should be deeply considered.

The group emphasized the importance of selecting a purpose-driven, visionary, selfless, and people-oriented leader who believes in teamwork rather than a superman who lords over others.

According to the group, the Senate president should be a man who can lead a great deal of teamwork to pull bills through in the National Assembly.

They warned against a repeat of the frosty relationship between former Senate President Bukola Saraki and President Muhammadu Buhari, which they believe impinged on governance in Buhari’s first tenure.

The NDSEJ appealed to stakeholders to support a credible and resourceful person who will not lord over people but work with other leaders and colleagues for the greater good.
