EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of over 33,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to newly registered voters.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, said this on Wednesday in Lagos.

While giving over PVCs to registered voters at INEC offices in Somolu and Kosofe local government areas, Agbaje informed reporters that the PVCs were for people who registered between June and December 2021.

He urged those affected to go to INEC offices in the 20 local governments Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get their PVCs.

According to him, a PVC cannot be collected by proxy; instead, each applicant must present in person to receive the card.

He stated that the Commission would take the data and images of persons obtaining their PVCs in order to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

“We have symbolically flagged off the distribution of PVCs for registered voters in the state in Somolu and Kosofe.”

“INEC will declare when people who registered between January 2022 and now would be able to get theirs,” he said.

The INEC chairman urged qualified voters to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) at INEC offices before June 30.

He stated that people who register twice or several times will not have their PVCs printed.

Agbaje, in response to the need to decentralize PVC distribution at the ward level, urged voters to pick up their cards at INEC offices in each council.
