EDITOR’S PICKS:

Peter Obi’s victory was a landslide as he won all 21 local government areas in the state by a wide margin. His win has been attributed to his campaign promises of economic growth and job creation, which resonated with many voters in the state.

Announcing the results, Prof Nnenna Otti stated that the total number of registered voters in Anambra State was 2,536,156, and the number of accredited voters was 628,590. The LP candidate scored a total of 584,621 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who polled 5,111 votes. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate came in third with 9,036 votes.

Other parties that contested in the election include the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which polled 7,388 votes, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) which polled 1,997 votes, and the African Action Congress (AAC) which polled 1,012 votes.

The total number of valid votes cast in the election was 613,861, while the void votes were 10,751, making the total number of votes cast 624,612.

As of the time of filing this report, the collation officer and the Resident Electoral Commission of INEC in Anambra State, Dr Elizabeth Agwu, have left for the national collation center in Abuja.

Peter Obi’s victory in Anambra State has been seen as a significant boost to the Labour Party’s hopes of winning the presidential election. It is also a major blow to the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party, both of whom have traditionally been dominant in Nigerian politics.

In the wake of the election, there have been celebrations across Anambra state, with many people expressing hope that Peter Obi’s leadership in the event he is declared overall winner, will bring positive change to the country.
