Following his nomination for re-appointment as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Senate Committee on INEC is currently screening Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
The screening session is ongoing at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Yakubu, in his address, appealed to the National Assembly to pass the Amended Electoral Act Bill before the end of the first quarter of 2021.

The former INEC Boss explained that passing the bill into law in due course as recommended will contribute to the success of the 2023 general elections.
He also informed the lawmakers that the electoral umpire had submitted several areas for amendments in the Electoral Act.
According to him, it is important that the electoral legal framework be finalised within the time frame as INEC cannot conduct elections under uncertainty.
