Delta LG Polls Hold Saturday

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the upcoming Edo governorship election will be conducted smoothly.

INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, affirmed the commission’s dedication to a transparent and inclusive electoral process, emphasizing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of credible and inclusive elections.

Addressing journalists during the formal induction of 10 new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Lagos, Yakubu responded to concerns about the recent flooding of INEC’s office in Edo State.

He assured that despite the incident, which affected over 4,000 machines, technical staff have already recovered more than 3,500 of them.

He said, “It seems like it’s an off-cycle election. We will call for additional support from neighboring states, so in terms of machines, rest assured that we have enough. We are going to recover from Edo, and rest assured that we won’t suffer any encumbrances at all.”

Yakubu also encouraged the newly inducted RECs to familiarize themselves with the commission’s processes and procedures.

The inducted RECs include Mr. Abubakar Dambo for Kebbi State, Mr. Abubakar Ma’aji-Ahmed for Borno State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha for Edo State, Mr. Ehimeke Shaka-Isha for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Aminu Idris for Kaduna State, Mr. Mohammed Sadiq Abubakar for Kwara State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola for Ondo State, Dr. Olubunmi Omoseyindemi for Ekiti State, Alhaji Shehu Wahab for Nasarawa State, and Sir Etekamba Umoren for Delta State.
