  • INEC’s lawyer clarified they have accepted subpoenas in previous cases and urged petitioners not to scapegoat them.

  • The petitioners presented blurry reports from INEC’s Result Viewing Portal, and the further hearing will continue.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to stop blaming it for their case delays at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

INEC’s lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), responded to claims made by LP and Obi’s counsel, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), that INEC had refused to accept a subpoena served on Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to produce documents.

Uzoukwu informed the court that they were unable to proceed due to the INEC Chairman’s office’s refusal to accept the subpoena, hindering their progress.

Pinheiro stated that blaming INEC had become a pattern for the petitioners whenever they faced difficulties and sought adjournments.

Pinheiro emphasized that INEC has a department responsible for handling court documents and has accepted and responded to subpoenas in previous cases.

He urged the petitioners not to use INEC as a scapegoat and clarified that the INEC Chairman and officials have no reason to decline subpoenas or court documents.

Earlier, Audu Anuga (SAN), a member of the petitioners’ legal team, tendered certified true copies (CTCs) of downloaded reports from INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IREV) related to various local government areas.

Anuga presented some reports that were blurred and couldn’t be associated with specific LGAs in certain states.
