Insecurity: Aggrieved Youths Block Highway In Kastina
Some youths in Funtua and Birnin-Gwari area of Katsina state on Saturday protested against rising insecurity and criminal activities in the the community.
As part of the move to hammer home their agitation and make their voice heard, they blocked a major highway that cuts through these communities.
According to PUNCH, the actions of the youths hindered vehicular activities and impeded flow of traffic in the axis.
Travellers were reportedly delayed for about three hours before the police from Funtua intervened..
Ekohotblog gathered that the protest started around 7:00am. The protesters used tree branches and worn-out tyres were used as blockades on the road,
The newspaper quoted a motorist as saying the youth — during their demonstration — expressed dismay over the incessant attacks on their communities by gunmen.
The newspaper also quoted Sadi Bala, a resident of one of the communities, as saying more than 50 people have been abducted in the past week.
“No fewer than fifty people from the communities that were kidnapped during the week by the gunmen are still being held by their abductors,” Bala said.

There’s been spike in insecurity and criminal activities in the state in recent months. Some travellers on the Funtua-Dandume-Birnin-Gwari road have experienced armed robbery attacks
Recall that over 300 schoolboys were abducted when gunmen attacked a boarding secondary school in Kankara area of the state in December. The incident coincided with President Muhammadu Buhari visit to the state.
The schoolboys regained freedom a week in captivity.
