The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) says it has confiscated 73 locally made firearms and 891 cartridges in Kebbi state.
The service announced the development in a tweet on its official twitter page on Monday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the arms and ammunition were hidden in a truck conveying locally produced rice.
The contrabands were seized after some officers on patrol searched the truck, The service, however, did not divulge the time and day the items were seized.
It added that three people have so far been arrested and preliminary investigation has begun.
“Officers of Nigeria Customs Service Federal operation unit zone B, on information patrol along Yauri, Zamare water side in Kebbi State, intercepted a truck loaded with locally produced rice with some sacks concealed under the rice,” the service tweeted.

“Upon careful examination the bags were found to contain 73 locally manufactured guns and 891 cartridges.
“Three were immediately arrested and are being detained while preliminary investigation is ongoing.”
