Insecurity: NUJ Insists Government Must Rise To Challenges
- “The Nigerian Union of journalists realizes that Nigeria is part of the world order and the country must rise to the challenges which insecurity poses to our National Integrity.”
The National President of the Nigeria Union Journalists, NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo, has urged the Federal Government to rise to the challenges which insecurity poses to the nation’s integrity.
Isiguzo gave the advice in his address at the opening ceremony of the 2021 NUJ National Conference taking place in Port, the Rivers state capital.
The NUJ President said the government whose primary responsibility is to protect lives and property appears to have been overwhelmed by the security challenges in the country.
According to him, “The primary responsibility of government is to protect lives and properties of its citizens and it appears the government is overwhelmed and unable to perform this responsibility well, certainly it will be disastrous to allow citizens to lose confidence in the ability of the government to deal with the situation decisively.”
“The Nigerian Union of journalists realizes that Nigeria is part of the world order and the country must rise to the challenges which insecurity poses to our National Integrity.”
The NUJ president further expressed hope that the conference will provide a platform to discuss ways to manage the opportunities and dangers that are associated with the new information age.

According to him, “It is instructive to note that the very same policies that work to bring about democratic and open market also make the trans-sovereign threat possible.”
“These new factors that transcend boundaries and threaten national stability present a very difficult dilemma for policy makers.”
“The union believes that in moving forward we have to operate against the background of the opportunities and problems associated with the information age.”
