Int’l Friendly: Ijamilusi Scores Hat-Trick As Super Falcons Beat Algeria 4-1

Returning star Folashade Ijamilusi delivered a hat-trick as the Super Falcons soared to a 4-1 victory over Algeria in their second international friendly at Lagos’ Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Tuesday afternoon.

Algeria, under coach Farid Benstiti’s guidance, began with greater discipline and confidence than in Saturday’s 2-0 loss in Ikenne-Remo, even creating a few openings against the Nigerian defence.

Former youth international Ijamilusi struck first for the Falcons in the 12th minute, scoring from a corner, and quickly followed up with a second nine minutes later after pouncing on a rebound from Blessing Ilivieda’s shot that hit the crossbar.

Algeria came close to cutting the deficit in the 39th minute with a penalty, but Lina Boussaha missed the mark. Moments later, Laura Muller’s powerful shot was saved by Nigeria’s goalkeeper Rachael Unachukwu.

Still, Algeria managed to pull one back in the 43rd minute through Ouassila Alouache, who slipped past the Nigerian defence to score her team’s only goal of the tour.

Undeterred, the Super Falcons, who won the first match with a brace from Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, pushed for more. In added time before halftime, Gift Monday restored Nigeria’s two-goal lead with a powerful header.

The second half brought more lively play, capped off by Ijamilusi’s third goal to complete her hat-trick, sealing Nigeria’s dominant 4-1 win.
