Investigate Abdulrazaq’s Govt Over N6.2B in 2020 Without Receipt – Kwara PDP to EFCC

  • Kwara PDP asks anti-graft agency to investigate Kwara Govt over spendings without receipt.

Following the recent revelation that the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led administration spent N6.2billion in 2020 without relevant expenditure receipts, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct invest igation into the matter, EkohotBlog reports.

The revelation was contained in the 2020 Citizens’ Accountability Report published the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Finance, Folorunsho Abdulrazaq, and which was amplified by a Non-Governmental Organisation, ENetSuD.

In the report, a total of 592 audit queries were raised by the State’s Auditor-General against 10 MDAs including Government House, Governor’s Office that reportedly spent over N2billion of tax payers’ funds without relevant expenditure receipts, in utter violation of financial regulation.

A statement by the Kwara PDP Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, said the revelation of financial malpractice has further exposed the Abdulrazaq-led government as one that does not have regard for due process and lacks integrity, transparency and accountability.

The party also lambasted the State’s Auditor-General for attempting to cover the irregularities of the State government by issuing a contradicting statement, saying that going by the law that established his office, he is expected to be independent, display of high level of professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of his duties.

“The turn around in the Auditor General press statement absorbing the earlier alleged offices and MDAs of financial malpractice is not only worrisome but mind boggling. It appears the Auditor General has either been cowed by his employers to compromise his constitutional duties and subject the integrity of his office to questioning.

“As a party that believes in the rule of law and need for prudence and transparency in the management of state resources, we categorically reject the contradicting statement of the Auditor General and call for independent investigation by the EFCC on the N6.2billion expenditures that were unaccounted for.

“We enjoin well-meaning Kwarans to speak up and not allow this untoward revelation be swept under the carpet. We must do our best to enthrone fiscal transparency and accountability in public account and governance,” the Kwara PDP said.
