IPOB: Nigerians React To Imo Governor’s Comments On Monday’s Attack
- Gunmen had attacked the Nigerian Correctional Facility in Imo State freeing score of inmates
Following a comment made by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, that members of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) movement are not responsible for the attacks on police and correctional facilities in the state on Monday, social media have begun buzzing with reactions from Nigerians.
Gunmen had attacked the Nigerian Correctional Facility in Imo State freeing score of inmates. They also stormed the Police headquarters in the state, setting it ablaze in the wake of the attack.
Barely twenty-four hours after the attack, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, said the IPOB and ESN were responsible for the attacks, an allegation the IPOB has since denied.
Speaking during a programme on Channels Television, Governor Uzodinma insisted that the IPOB was not responsible for the attacks.
The governor instead blamed politicians for fomenting violence with the intention to undermine the efforts of the federal government at addressing the security challenges of the country.
Similarly, Ekohotblog reported on Thursday that a former assistant director with the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, said that the state governor and the Nigerian Police Force were alerted three times by the agency prior to the attacks.

The former DSS official also faulted the immediate past IG’s claims, saying that the IPOB did not mastermind the attacks.
However, a cross-section of Nigerians have taken to social media to express their opinion about the Governor’s comments.

The Imo State Governor confirms that the Owerri jail break was NOT carried out by IPOB. IPOB too has distanced itself from the crime. It seems the former IGP misled the public when he blamed it on IPOB. Govt must fish out the criminals trying to foment anarchy in the South East. https://t.co/IEIky3ThzD

The people who do not waste seconds profiling Fulanis as killer herdsmen daily are running amok because criminal IPOB was accused of breaking prisons and burning police stations. Define hypocrites

If there's any Yoruba person speaking bad about IPOB because they are defending their region in whatever way they deem fit. Na ogun go kill you. Ipob or ESN aren't the ones killing our farmers and sending our people to Benin republic. It's fulani herdsmen doing that.

Even Governor of Imo State have come out to exonerate IPOB/ESN of the Owerri attack. I hope some of you ndị Igbo have learnt a thing or two from this incident. Bikonu, going forward, let us do better. Always use your third eyes and apply "native sense" when necessary. Udo! ✌️

And yet less than 24-hours after the Imo incident, the former IGP announced that IPOB was the culprit as a prelude to yet another round of murderous invasion by the security forces.
And the IGP knew his audience.
Anti-Igbo sentiment is rife in Nigeria so they’ll not speak up https://t.co/PfidAmu6ME— Dr Aloy Chife (@ChifeDr) April 8, 2021
Governor Of Imo State Have Exonerated IPOB & ESN Of The Owerri Attack. I Hope Those Detribalised Igbo Efulefu's & BBC IGBO, Who Were Quick To Point Hands To IPOB For The Attacks In Imo State, Can Now Crawl Back To Their Shameless Shells. IPOB & ESN Remains FORMIDABLE!!! #WEMOVE
