Alexander Isak’s prolific scoring streak continued as Newcastle United claimed a commanding 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle, still seeking their first triumph in the competition, are well-placed to reach their second final in three years.
A win, draw, or even a narrow one-goal loss in the second leg at St James’ Park on 5 February will secure their spot at Wembley.

Arsenal, sitting second in the Premier League, entered the tie as favourites but now face an uphill battle in the return fixture.
Isak opened the scoring with his 14th goal in 15 appearances, finishing calmly past David Raya after Jacob Murphy’s clever assist. The goal came from a long free-kick by Martin Dubravka, with Sven Botman and Murphy combining to set up the Swedish striker.
Anthony Gordon doubled Newcastle’s advantage in the 51st minute, slotting home the rebound after Raya parried an initial shot from Isak.
Arsenal had opportunities, including Gabriel Martinelli hitting the post and close-range misses by Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, but failed to capitalize.
The second semi-final first leg sees Tottenham host Liverpool on Wednesday (20:00 GMT), with the final set for Wembley on 16 March.
