An Israeli airstrike has killed at least 11 Palestinians overnight, including Gaza’s police chief Maj. Gen. Mahmoud Salah and his deputy, Maj. Gen. Hussam Shahwan, in the Al-Mawasi area of southern Gaza, local officials confirmed Thursday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Gaza Interior Ministry accused Israel of deliberately targeting the police leaders to destabilize law enforcement in the region.

“By committing the crime of assassinating the Director General of Police in the Gaza Strip, the occupation is insisting on spreading chaos in the Strip and deepening the human suffering of citizens,” the ministry said in a Thursday statement.
The Israeli military confirmed the death of Shahwan, describing him as a “terrorist” responsible for coordinating intelligence with Hamas’ military wing.
However, the IDF did not comment on Salah’s death.
Since the October 7 Hamas-led attacks, Israel’s ongoing military offensive has significantly eroded Gaza’s infrastructure, including its police force, which has been crucial in securing humanitarian aid delivery.
Human rights groups have consistently criticized Israel’s aid blockades, citing issues such as delayed truck inspections, damaged roads, and restricted access, all of which have compounded the humanitarian crisis.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 45,500 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 108,000 have been injured since the conflict intensified.
