Israeli Strikes Kill 40 In East Lebanon
Israeli airstrikes escalated across Lebanon on Wednesday, resulting in 40 deaths in the country’s eastern region, Lebanon’s health ministry reported.
Among the casualties were 11 people killed in Baalbek, including nine in the Shikan district. The city’s historic Palmyra Hotel was also damaged in nearby strikes, with two fatalities confirmed by the ministry. Additionally, a strike on the village of Nasriyah claimed 16 lives.

“Rescue and rubble removal operations are still ongoing to search for missing persons,” the ministry stated, adding that Israel’s army had issued no evacuation warnings for Lebanon’s eastern regions.
Lebanon’s civil defence teams reported that they had retrieved 30 bodies from the debris of apartment buildings hit by strikes on Tuesday.
In a separate announcement, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for targeting an Israeli military base south of Tel Aviv and a naval base near Haifa with drones and missiles on Wednesday night, marking the fourth assault on the base this month.
Hezbollah’s leader, Naim Qassem, declared that the group has tens of thousands of trained fighters prepared for action against Israel. “Nowhere in Israel is off-limits to our attacks,” he said.

Qassem also dismissed any impact of the U.S. election outcome on the conflict’s trajectory, saying, “Whether Harris or Trump wins, it means nothing to us.” This statement was part of a pre-recorded address released prior to Trump’s declared victory.
