It Is Not Rubber Or Plastic As Claimed By Mischief Makers. It is A Combination of Proteins And Glutenin In Semovita
The video that has gone viral on social media that the production of Semovita or Semolina has been counterfeited by some Chinese, adding that most o the products are made of rubber or plastic and that they have occupied the Nigerian markets.
In the video, we saw a lady demonstrating how she arrived at her conclusion by adding water to the Semovita gradually until she got an extract that elongated like rubber or plastic.
However, we later saw another viral video whether by an expert from the quality control department at Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC, Mrs.Olusola Oladejo, who condemned the insinuation that Chinese have produced forged products of Semolina.
She went ahead to say that Semolina or Semovita is made of wheat and that the wheat is usually predominantly available in the northern part of Nigeria and it could also be imported.
She moved further to say that wheat flour contains two important types of proteins: Glutenin and Gliadin and that with the presence of water, these two proteins change shape and bond together and this creates an elastic network of a protein called Glutenin.

This analysis means that when the carbohydrates from the processed wheat or wheat have been washed off, what will occur naturally is called Glutenin and looking like rubber is one of its characteristics.
Well, from the explanation of Mrs. Olusola Oladejo, one will discover that the assumption from the former lady based on or ignorance or axiom.
Axiom could be defined as a seemingly self-evident or necessary truth which is based on assumption; a principle or proposition which cannot actually be proved or disproved.
A fundamental assumption that serves as a basis for deduction of theorems; a postulate. Moreover, it could also be looked as established principle in some artistic practice or science that is universally received.
However, as an axiom is generally defined as truth that is based on assumption, still the axioms of political economy cannot be considered absolute truths because of the involvement of political and economic antinationaliam which could be detected from the first viral video.
It shouldn’t be that because Chinese are maltreating Nigerians in their country that we should now conspire in damaging their reputation.
The Chinese have an incredible history. They may be faulty in some area, that shouldn’t call for anti-nationalism.
So, the claim from the lady that said Chinese have forged Semolina is baseless Accusation. It is unfortunate, barbaric, ridiculous, and therefore totally unacceptable.
