EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Premier League is set to impose sanctions on Manchester City for breaching financial fair play regulations, and the club will not be able to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
In 2020, UEFA ruled that City had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations between 2012 and 2016, leading to a two-year ban from European club competitions.
However, the club successfully appealed the decision through CAS when UEFA carried out its investigations in 2020, something that the Etihad owned club wouldn’t have the luxury of this time around with the Premier League.
According to The Times, the same outcome may not be possible for City this time around as Premier League rules prevent intervention from CAS. If Manchester City is found guilty, the club faces a range of potential sanctions, including a points deduction or even expulsion from the Premier league.
The investigation into Manchester City’s financial dealings has been ongoing for several years, and a conclusion could take several more years to reach. The club and its fans are eager for a resolution, but it may take some time before any action is taken.
Regardless of the outcome, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of financial regulation in professional sports. Financial Fair Play regulations aim to ensure a level playing field and prevent clubs from overspending and endangering their financial stability.
The Premier League is committed to enforcing these regulations, and the outcome of this case will have a significant impact on the league and its clubs.
Of course, this news is very much a welcomed development for Manchester City’s rivals, specifically Arsenal who may have a breather with Manchester City’s powers neutralized.
The Liverpool fans though, look forward to cry foul after being denied the league three times by the Cityzens.
