EKO HOT BLOG reports that an Italy-based Nigerian identified as Udeh Charley, 53, was arrested at the Enugu airport for consuming 72 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.253 kilograms.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, confirmed the development.
According to the statement, Charley was apprehended on Friday, December 3rd, during the outward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers traveling to Rome, Italy via Addis Abeba.
In detention, he claimed he would have been paid 4000 Euros if the drugs were successfully delivered in Italy, where he has lived for over 20 years.
He blamed his decision to engage in the heinous trade on his company’s decline as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another suspect, Uzoh Ndubuisi Johnson, was apprehended on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, around 5.30 p.m., during an inward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers at the airport’s Arrival Hall.
Uzoh who arrived from Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was controlled and arrested with clothes impregnated with cocaine, which has a gross weight of 6.7 kilograms.
While being interviewed by narcotic officers, Uzoh said he was given the consignment by his enabler based in Brazil for which he would be paid N3million upon successful delivery to someone in Nigeria.
