Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has created a free food centre for fewer privileged people.
The free food centre, which was purposefully created for fasting Muslims for Iftar (Breaking of Fast), has attracted more than 3000 citizens as the admission to the centre has no any restriction means.
According to the Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Dr Ahmed Apatira while addressing the journalists yesterday, 1 May 2020, he said the kind gesture was meant to provide food for those who don’t have means of sustaining themselves during the Ramadan period.
He added that the program was in line with the mandate of Lagos State Government.
The Chairman moved further to say that people in charge have been attending to anyone, either you are a Muslim or not, because the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced in the past a daily food kitchen program to feed at least 100,000 youths in the state.
“Since our governor made the feeding program announcement, we have been providing cooked food for the people. We are operating in three centcenterstire, Ijeshatedo, and Ikate. Each of the centres has three serving points; this was done to reach out to more people.
We even created a Mobile Food Distribution Programme, whereby buses take the food round to the communities for distribution to people whose houses are far from the feeding centres,” he said.
