It’s A Normal Thing — Airline Operators of Nigeria Assuage Apprehension After Tyre Blowout

  • Airline operators assure the Nigerian public in response to an airplane tyre burst at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.

  • A Max Air flight experienced an emergency landing and suffered a burst tyre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday.

  • Allen Onyema, Vice President of the AON and Chairman of Air Peace, underscored that tyre bursts can happen to any airline and are not indicative of an airline’s safety standards.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has moved to reassure the public that tyre bursts on airplanes are occasional incidents that happen in the aviation industry and should not be seen as determinants of an airline’s safety standards.

This announcement follows the recent sensational reporting of an incident involving a Max Air flight, which experienced an emergency landing and suffered a burst tyre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Tyre bursts typically occur due to the sudden loss of air pressure, resulting in a rapid deflation. The AON emphasizes that such incidents are not unique to any particular airline and that exaggerated reports only serve to create unnecessary fear among the flying public.

In a statement issued by Allen Onyema, Vice President of the AON and Chairman of Air Peace, it was underscored that tyre bursts can happen to any airline and are not indicative of an airline’s safety standards. Onyema also expressed gratitude that no passengers or crew members were injured during the incident, as all individuals on board were safely evacuated.

While acknowledging the potential dangers associated with tyre bursts, the AON voiced their concerns about sensational reporting whenever such incidents occur.

They stressed that tyre bursts are commonplace in the aviation industry and urged the media to exercise responsibility in their coverage to avoid unnecessarily alarming unsuspecting passengers.

The AON reaffirmed that Max Air, the airline involved in the recent incident, maintains a strong safety record and should not be subjected to ridicule or criticism based on this isolated occurrence.

They emphasized that Max Air is recognized as one of the safest airlines globally, and incidents like a tyre burst can happen to any airline worldwide.

The AON called on the flying public to be mindful of the consequences of sensationalizing such incidents, as they can potentially impact the country’s aviation rating when exploited by external entities.

They further reassured the public that all Nigerian airlines are subject to stringent oversight by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), leaving no room for unsafe practices.

The AON’s statement aimed to dispel unwarranted fears, promote responsible reporting, and maintain confidence in the aviation industry’s commitment to passenger safety. It reiterated that the recent tyre burst incident involving Max Air does not in any way diminish the airline’s well-established safety standards.

As investigations into the incident continue, the AON said it remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that all Nigerian airlines adhere to strict safety protocols.
