EKO HOT BLOG recalls that on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu announced the complete removal of the fuel subsidy, which led to a significant rise in petrol prices and a surge in inflation, affecting the cost of various commodities.
Senator Musa emphasized that this policy decision, though challenging, is ultimately beneficial. “We want to ensure our actions don’t negatively impact Nigerians,” he stated, adding, “Removing the subsidy is the best thing that has happened to this country.”
He highlighted that subsidy removal has increased the funds available for the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which provides financial support to state governments. However, he criticized some states for not effectively utilizing these funds to address key issues within their regions.
“If the revenue Nigeria generates, along with FAAC disbursements to states, is properly managed, many challenges could be addressed effectively,” he remarked.
