Eko Hot Blog reports that the spokesman of the presidential campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayo Onanuga, is not holding back in calling for more support from President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a tweet on Saturday, Onanuga suggested that the president is not providing enough support for his party’s presidential nominee.
He was responding to a tweet that accused Buhari of maintaining a “devilish silence.”
The tweet attached a video of Tinubu “vigorously” campaigning for the president in 2015 as he sought to oust former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Rashwal Rashwal, who made the tweet, said the APC candidate supporters were expecting the same level of support from Buhari but were yet to get it.
“This is what we expect Buhari @MBuhari should be doing for Jagaban @officialABAT instead he maintains a devilish silence, time will tell. No shaking no matter the shaking because the Almighty God is above all,” the tweet reads.
Onanuga responded, saying it should be payback time for his principal, Tinubu, although Buhari recently campaigned with the APC candidate in Katsina, Sokoto, and Nasarawa States.
“Tinubu then in 2014/2015 campaigning vigorously for Muhammadu Buhari in Abeokuta. It should be pay back time, I believe,” he tweeted.
In recent weeks, there had been accusations that some elements in the presidency are trying to sabotage Tinubu’s presidential bid.
The former Lagos governor alleged that the scarcity of naira notes and fuel across the country was aimed at getting the people angry to vote against the APC.
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, also recently claimed that some disgruntled people who had the president’s ears engineered the failing naira redesign policy to make the APC fail at the polls.
However, Tinubu’s supporters in the APC have been careful not to include Buhari in their accusations but some have hinted that he’s in on a plot to hurt the party’s presidential candidate due to his actions and refusal to allow the old N500 and N1000 notes to remain legal tender as Nigerians struggle to access cash.
Despite the accusations, the president’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Friday, said Tinubu is Buhari’s preferred successor.
