“It’s Time We Start Asking Questions”, Man Remembers Tolulope Arotile Months After Tragic Death
- Tolulope Oluwatoyin Sarah Arotile (13 December 1995 – 14 July 2020) was the first-ever female combat helicopter pilot in the Nigerian Air Force
When the news of her death became public knowledge on July 14, 2020, 24-year-old Tolulope Arotile had done well for herself as a young flight officer and first female combat helicopter pilot, whose adeptness was attested to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tolulope, who contributed significantly to the fight against insurgency and banditry in the Northeast region of Nigeria, was said to have been knocked down by a drunken friend while he was trying to greet her on the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna. She died hours later from head injuries she suffered from the hit.
Her employers, the Nigerian Air Force, had described her death as an “irreparable loss”.

Despite several controversies that trailed the nature of her death at the time, the Nigerian Air Force had said Arotile’s death required no autopsy before she was buried, because the circumstances surrounding her death were clear, and there were witnesses who were present during the accident.
The force further stated that her family wanted to move on quickly and did not demand an autopsy, adding that the family were comfortable with the force’s investigation.

But a twitter user @_auxano, on Thursday, posted a picture of the late Air Officer with the caption: “I think it’s time we start asking questions, this lady died mysteriously.” – an indication that some persons are not satisfied with the explanation proferred by the Airforce concerning Arotile’s death.

His tweet generated several reactions from other twitter users some of whom seem content with the Force’s official statement on her death. Though others shared @_auxano’s sentiments, alleging that there is a conspiracy involved in her death.
