Ekohotblog reports that after the tragic accidents at Ayetoro Market, Alhaja Wuraola Olorunnishola, the Iyaloja General of Epe, has called on all market women and men to stop selling on the roadside and move into the safer market spaces.
She said the recent accidents should serve as a wake-up call for everyone.
Speaking to traders, Alhaja Olorunnishola said, “What happened today is a reminder that selling on the roadside is dangerous.
It puts our lives and our customers’ lives at risk. We must move into the market to stay safe.”
She also reminded traders about the new shops built by Hon. Wale Raji for them.
“Hon. Wale Raji has built new shops for us so we can leave the roadside and do our business safely.
I urge everyone to try to get a space for use inside the market, instead of putting our lives in danger,” she said.
Alhaja Olorunnishola also asked the local government to help stop roadside selling.
“We need the local government to do something about it. Only God watches over us, but we must also be careful.
Selling on the road is too dangerous,” she added.
She encouraged traders to understand the importance of this move.
“This accident is a warning for us all. We can’t keep selling on the road and hoping nothing will happen.
We need to protect ourselves by staying in the market,” she emphasized.
Hon. Owolomonshe, the Vice Chairman of Epe Local Government, supported Alhaja Olorunnishola’s call, he also said in his speech that
“We will work together with the market leaders to make sure traders move into the market. It’s for everyone’s safety,” he said.
Traders also agreed with the Iyaloja General. Mrs. Aisat, a food seller, said,
“The roadside is dangerous truly, we all are just hoping God protects us . I will move my stall inside the market to stay safe.”
