The Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, representing the Federal Government, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Taraba State Government to transition the National Orthopedic Hospital in Jalingo into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

This initiative aligns with the governance priorities outlined in Pillars 1 and 2 of the ministry’s 4-point Agenda.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the federal government, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, said President Bola Tinubu is resolute in his commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country, particularly in underserved areas, to improve overall health outcomes for Nigerians.According to him, this commitment is evident in the recent establishment of FMCs in Ado (Ekiti), Epe, Misau (Bauchi), and other new orthopedic centers across the country.

Dr Alausa said, “I would like to extend our gratitude to the Governor of Taraba State, H.E. Dr. Aggbu Kefas, for transferring the hospital to the Federal Government, and to the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, for attending the MoU signing.

“We are thankful for your support in ensuring that the facility is utilized to its full potential for the ongoing benefit of the state.

“Your support is crucial in ensuring that the facility is fully utilized to benefit the people of Taraba State.”

The minister added that the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare will provide the necessary resources to ensure that the newly established FMC in Jalingo offers comprehensive and affordable healthcare services to the people of Taraba and neighboring states.
