JAMB Arrests Operators Of Fraudulent Cybercafe, Tutorial Centres

  • The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern over the “unwholesome activities of fraudulent operators of cybercafes, tutorial centres” and other entities.
  • JAMB stated that some of the fraudulent operators had been arrested in Kwara and had been handed over to security agencies.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern over the “unwholesome activities of fraudulent operators of cybercafes, tutorial centres” and other entities.

The examination body made this known in a statement by the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday.

JAMB stated that some of the fraudulent operators had been arrested in Kwara and had been handed over to security agencies, adding that such centres had formed the habit of deceiving helpless candidates through using its logo and name to defraud and extort them.

The statement further revealed that the JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, expressed these views in Ilorin, Kwara State on Friday while handing over some operators of cybercafés, tutorial centres and others to security agents.

It added that security agencies will be combing the streets across the country to ensure that the untoward activities of fraudulent elements are curtailed.

“It is a criminal offence for one to use the board’s name and logo when one is not licensed do so. The Registrar, during the engagement, warned that JAMB would no longer tolerate the antics of such platforms, which, he said, are used as incubators for grooming examination infractors who use the name and logo of the Board to lend credence to their unwholesome activities,” the statement said.
