JAMB makes N5.6 Billion from sales of UTME/DE forms, others in three weeks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that the body generated N5,615,803,467.00 revenue from the sales of forms for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) examination to admission seekers in the nation’s tertiary institutions.

About 1,121,564 million candidates have so far registered for the examination, which will hold from March 14 to April 4.

The registration, which began nationwide on January 13, will end on February 17.

The figures were obtained under the Financial Inflow column of the board’s weekly bulletins of January.

The board showed that between January 10 and 16, it generated N1,937,236,837.00 in the first week when the sales of registration instruments opened to UTME applicants.

Crunching figures, it was learnt that the board generated N1,823,706,310.00 from selling e-registration pins, N107,876,720.00 from e-facility/sales and N5,653,807.00 from Computer-Based Test Centre (CBTC) service charges, totalling N1,937,236,837.00.

Between January 17 and 23, the figures showed that the board generated N2,272,681,643:00 revenue from sales of registration instruments for the examination.

According to the figures from the bulletin, the board generated N2,122,400,000:00 from the sales of e-registration pin, N128,816,602:00 from e-facility sales and N21,465,041:00 from CBT centre service charges, totalling N2,272,681,643:00.

Also, between January 25 and 31, it generated N1,291,480,400 from sales of e-registration pin, N95,327,572.00 from sales of e-facility and N19,077,015.00 from CBT centre service charges, totalling N1,405,884,987.00.

Previously In 2019, the board generated N5 billion from the conduct of that year’s UTME but remitted N3 billion to the coffers of the Federal Government after the government asked the board to take N2 billion to enhance its operations.

Its highest remittance was in 2018 when it remitted N7.8 billion revenue it generated from the conduct of the year’s UTME to government coffers.

Meanwhile, JAMB’s Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, has said the board would not extend the registration, which ends in two weeks.

He said: “The 2020 registration is to end on February 17, 14 days from now. The registration date would not be extended.”
