While some critics attributed the appointment to religious bias, others highlighted Oloyede’s strong leadership, commitment, and exceptional performance during his time at the University of Ilorin.

By the time Oloyede was reappointed in 2021, public sentiment had shifted, as it became evident that his leadership had positively impacted JAMB.
The organization had undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a corruption-ridden, inefficient government agency into a pioneering, technology-driven institution that effectively combats corruption and malpractice.
Professor Ishaq Oloyede’s track record of reviving and revitalizing troubled institutions is a well-established fact that transcends academic debate and professional deliberation.
Under his leadership, JAMB has not only become more efficient and transparent but has also generated substantial revenue for the Federal Government – a staggering N50 billion in 2024 alone.
This achievement challenges the traditional perception of JAMB as a solely exam-oriented and government-funded agency.
However, the recent 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) errors have undeniably tested Oloyede’s resilience and unwavering commitment to excellence.
In a display of genuine concern and humility, he publicly apologized for the examination malfunction during a press conference, where he was visibly moved to tears.
The unfortunate incident has sparked calls for Oloyede’s resignation and a return to the old pen-and-paper examination mode.
Candidates and their families are voicing various demands while some are considering legal action against JAMB and its registrar others are calling for a complete cancellation of the process, advocating for a resit of the examination.
Critics and adversaries have seized this opportunity to highlight the systemic challenges that have contributed to JAMB’s recent failures. Issues such as the nation’s unreliable power supply, poor network infrastructure, and concerns over candidate safety during early morning examinations have been cited as factors that have exacerbated the situation.
Despite the resit of the exam, many candidates still feel their needs have not been adequately addressed. While some attribute the situation to the perceived incompetence and overconfidence of Oloyede, it is crucial to acknowledge his contributions to the transformation of JAMB.
Rather than hastily calling for his resignation, the Nigerian public should exercise patience and avoid letting the country’s systemic challenges taint his reputation as one of the most effective public servants in Nigeria.
Given his proven track record, ‘JAMB shouldn’t JAM Professor Oloyede’. He should be supported and not driven out of office like others before him who have shown dedication and commitment to progress.
