The vote comes after weeks of tension and disagreements that saw some members move to potentially impeach the speaker for alleged bad leadership.
But lawmaker Hamza Ibrahim, representing Mallam/Madori LGA, “moved the motion for the vote and was seconded by the member representing Garki LGA, Abdu Ila,” stated the Assembly.
Ibrahim said Speaker Aliyu and the Assembly’s leadership were “performing its constitutional responsibilities and complementing the state government’s effort to develop the state.”
The atmosphere shifted from uncertainty to solidarity as legislators backed the speaker, expressing determination to work together for Jigawa’s interests.
Speaker Aliyu thanked the members for the vote of confidence, emphasizing “the importance of unity in addressing the challenges facing the state.”
He pledged to continue serving the people and upholding democracy. The affirmation signifies unity after impeachment rumors had swirled.
Last November, the Assembly suspended three local council chairmen – Mubarak Ahmed, Rufai Sunusi, and Umar Baffa – for allegedly traveling abroad without permission.
