The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has expressed sadness at the petrol tanker explosion that killed 105 persons in Majia town in Jigawa State
The NGF, in a statement on Wednesday in Ilorin by its Chairman, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident were worrying, stressing that there was need for caution.
“The Forum sends its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Jigawa on this sad incident, especially families who lost their loved ones and those who sustained injuries in the fire.
“The reported circumstances of the incident are worrisome, and we are therefore urging citizens to avoid taking advantage of petrol spills because of its volatility and existential danger,” the statement said.
According to the Forum, the unfortunate incident again drew attention to a need for improved safety protocols in the handling of combustible materials like petrol.
“This includes during unforeseen circumstances such as this accident.
“Our hearts are with Gov. Umar Namadi, the people of the state, and families involved in the incident.
“We ask Almighty God to grant them solace at this trying time,” the governors said.
