EKO HOT BLOG reports that beggars in Jigawa State are facing difficulties due to the scarcity of the new naira notes and a decline in almsgiving as a result, from quotes gotten from an interview between beggars and Nigerian news platform, Daily Post.
This situation has caused immense hardship for those who rely on begging for their livelihood just as it has for everyday folks.
In an interview with DAILY POST, Malam Sani, a beggar along Kiyawa Road in Dutse, the state capital, shared that before the implementation of the new naira policy, he was able to receive enough money to meet his needs and those of his family.

“Before the issue of this new naira note, the money I was getting was enough for my transport fare and my family’s needs. But right now, it is even difficult to get the money that would transport me back to the village,”
However, now he struggles to even earn enough for his transport fare. Malama Halima, a woman begging along the same road, shared her struggles to feed herself and her two children with only N70 received that day.
“Since the morning that we came out, I only got N70 and I have to take care of myself and these children,”
The scarcity of the new naira notes has not only affected beggars but the masses in general and they are appealing to the Federal Government to address the situation and ease their suffering.
