Eko Hot Block reports that Anthony Joshua pocketed a massive $50 million (N79 billion) for his second-round knockout victory over Cameroonian boxer Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. While his initial purse was $40 million (N63.7 billion), he received an additional $10 million (N15.9 billion) for winning by knockout. Ngannou, on the other hand, earned $20 million (N31.8 billion).
The British-Nigerian boxer has now secured four straight wins, including knockout victories over Otto Wallin and Ngannou, who had both gone the distance against Tyson Fury.
Popular musician Drake lost a $615,000 (N950 million) bet after backing Ngannou, further solidifying his reputation as a “curse” for athletes he supports.
WBC heavyweight champion Fury praised Joshua’s performance but made it clear his focus is on the undisputed title fight against Oleksandr Usyk. “Me and Usyk have got an undisputed world heavyweight championship coming up… So that (the fight with AJ) is on the back burner for now,” Fury stated.
However, he left the door open for a potential clash with Joshua after their rematch in October, saying, “So, after that, if he is still available and I’m still available, let’s get it on.”
In the post-match conference, Joshua expressed his desire to face the winner of the Fury vs. Usyk bout: _”I just want to fight… and that next fight I want is the winner of Fury vs. Usyk.”
