Residents of Udu community in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta State were, on Tuesday, in a jubilant mood as the Udu Central Vigilante Team ‘A’ arrested a notorious wanted criminal suspect, who had been on the watch list of security agencies in the state for the past three years.
The suspect was identified as Oke Olodi Acha, aka Sharp.
Our correspondent gathered that the 33-year-old suspect was arrested by vigilantes at Asjam on the Du Road in Udu.
Sources said the suspect was an indigene and a “fighter” for the Oghior community in the ongoing boundary dispute with the Ukpiovwinc community in the Udu Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the suspect, who allegedly specialised in killing motorcyclists and stealing their motorcycles, was handed over to the police at the Ovwian/Aladja Divisional Headquarters for further interrogation and possible prosecution.
But some community leaders and lawyers were said to have been calling for his release from police custody, saying he was being set up by the security agencies.
When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, confirmed the suspect’s arrest.
“He has been arrested. He is already on the wanted list of the police for robbery and killing of a motorcyclist in Udu,” the CP stated.
