The Spanish outlet El Chiringuito has reported that the 23-year-old forward has informed the club of his intention to leave permanently in the summer transfer window.

Alvarez was signed by Manchester City in January 2022 but spent the remainder of the season on loan at River Plate, the club he was signed from. Since his return, he has made 19 league appearances for the defending champions, but only six of those have been in the starting line-up.

This lack of first-team football has reportedly led the Argentine forward to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

Despite being a World Cup winner with Argentina and a key player in their triumph at the end of last year, Alvarez has found himself on the periphery of the Manchester City squad.
