Jurgen Klopp Questions Ten Hag’s Decision To Sell Sancho To Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has criticized Manchester United’s decision to part ways with Jadon Sancho, arguing that the manager should have supported the player instead of dismissing him as “useless.”

Sancho’s future was a major talking point this summer, especially after his successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last season, where he played a key role in their journey to the Champions League final.

This success followed a public fallout with Erik ten Hag, which led to Sancho being dropped from a matchday squad a year ago and enduring a period of isolation in Manchester. He was eventually reintegrated into the first-team squad this summer.

However, a last-minute loan move to Chelsea appears to have marked the end of his time at Old Trafford. Despite Sancho’s underwhelming tenure in Manchester, Klopp believes he deserved more support before being moved on.

The ex-Liverpool boss said prior to his deadline day switch: “If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player. I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless,’ like other clubs did by the way – buying a player for £80 million and then sending him out on loan!”

Sancho has parted ways with United after scoring a mere 12 goals. The English winger, who lost his place in the England squad following his Premier League return, is now on a mission to re-establish himself at Chelsea.

United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth justified Sancho’s departure by pointing to the wealth of attacking talent at the club. With Ten Hag not including Sancho in his plans for the season’s opening fixtures, it was clear that opportunities would be scarce.

Ashworth told Sky Sports, “I think with any player, whether it’s Jadon, whether it’s Scott (McTominay) or whether it’s Aaron (Wan-Bissaka), if there’s a preference that they would like to move and go to a new club and it’s right for them and it’s right for us, then you have to explore it.
