EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan on Saturday met with the former head of states, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar at their uphill residences in Minna, Niger State.
Lawan first visited Abdulsalami at his residence at about 1.30 pm before proceeding to the residence of Babangida.
The meeting of the Senate President with Abdulsalami took about 40minutes, while the closed-door meeting with Babangida took about 30 minutes.
Lawan while speaking after the meeting said the former head of state has a role to play in ensuring the unity and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians.
According to the Senate President, he was in Minna on a sympathy visit to Abdulsalami and Babangida who were recuperating from an illness.
Lawan said, “as an elder statesman, the visit must be made especially with the contributions Abdulsalami has made to the country.
“As our leader and elder statesman, we felt that we must make this visit today to come and sympathize with him and his family.
We are grateful to God for the lives of our fathers and we pray that they recover completely.
”This is to enable them to continue with their good work of ensuring that Nigeria remains united and Nigerians live peacefully amongst themselves.”
