Akpabio Elected Senate President

Eko Hot Blog reports that Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom – APC) has emerged the president of the 10th Senate.

His colleagues elected him on Tuesday morning ahead of the inauguration of the new senate.

Akpabio defeated Senator Abdul’aziz Yari (Zamfara – APC).

While the new senate president scored 63 votes, his opponent scored 46.

Akpabio took three oaths, including the oath of allegiance, oath of membership of the senate, and oath of the senate president, from 9:40am to 9:46am after his election.

Senator Ali Ndume (Borno – APC) nominated Senator Akpabio for the seat of the senate president. On the other hand, Senator Elisha Abbo (Adamawa – APC) nominated Senator Yari for the position.

The election for the seat of the deputy senate president is expected to get underway in some minutes time.
