JUST IN: Armed Robbers Attack Bullion Van, Kill Two

  • Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly attacked a bullion van at Elemosho Village along Akure-Ondo Expressway in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly attacked a bullion van at Elemosho Village along Akure-Ondo Expressway in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The robbery attack, which occurred on Thursday evening, left two persons dead.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the armed robbers ambushed and attacked the bullion van which belongs to one of the commercial banks while heading towards Akure, the state capital at about 5 pm.

It was learnt that the robbers shot three people in the operation which lasted for about 20 minutes before they ran away into the bush.

An eyewitness disclosed that the villagers, on hearing sporadic gunshots, ran into the bush for safety.

“The robbers came to the scene in a Lexus car and waylaid the convoy of the bullion van. They vandalised two out of the three vehicles in the convoy with bullets.

“They shot three people before they ran away into the bush. One of the victims was alive while it was not sure whether the other two survived it,” the eyewitness said.

He further revealed that the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, were invited to the scene and took one victim to the hospital.

The attack was confirmed by the Commander of the Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, saying his men took one of the people that were shot to the hospital, adding that no life was lost in the attack.

“When we got the information, my men moved in there and met one of the persons that were shot at the scene and we have taken him to the hospital,” Adeleye disclosed.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, who also confirmed the incident, said the robbers had run away before the security men got to the scene.

The police spokesperson added that the command had commenced investigation into the incident, noting that the detectives from the command had been on the trail of the robbers.
