JUST IN: ASUU Shifts Ground On FG’s Offer

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently in a meeting with the Federal Government in a bid to “finalise talks” to put an end to its lingering strike.

However, ASUU disclosed in a tweet on its official handle on Friday evening that it has shifted grounds on the government’s offer.

According to the tweet, the union has insisted that payment of outstanding salaries must not be paid through the government’s IPPIS platform as promised, if the strike would be suspended.

This is the seventh time both parties are meeting since the industrial action started in March.

Recall that the striking lecturers had met with the government last week and had resolved to consult with members nationwide on whether to accept the government’s offer.

ASUU had been offered a cumulative sum of ₦65 billion to address earned academic allowance and revitalisation. The government also agreed to pay through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System until ASUU’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) was ready for usage.
