JUST IN: Buhari Reacts To Ikoyi Building Collapse

  • President Buhari has reacted to the Ikoyi Building collapse.

Ekohotblog reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the collapsed of 21-storey building at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

This online media reports that at least three corpses were recovered from the rubbles of the 21-storey building that collapsed in Lagos on Monday.

The building, which was under construction, collapsed along Gerald Road, Ikoyi, a highbrow area in Lagos.

Officials confirmed that three people have been rescued and are currently being treated by the medical team of the Lagos State General Hospital.

The Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said the bodies have been moved to a morgue owned by the state government.

“The deceased bodies were pulled out from under the ruble,” he said.

However, while reacting to the incident, President Buhari condoled with families who have lost loved ones in the collapsed building

The President, in a statement issued Monday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, urged authorities to step up efforts in rescue operations, while emergency institutions, including hospitals, should provide all the necessary support to safeguard the lives of the rescued.

According to the statement, “President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with families who have lost loved ones in the 22 storey building collapse in Lagos, while some are still trapped.

“President Buhari shares the sad moment with people and Government of Lagos State, urging authorities to step up efforts in rescue operations, while emergency institutions, including hospitals, should provide all the necessary support to safeguard lives of the rescued.

“The President prays for God’s intervention in the ongoing rescue operations.”
