This news outlet gathered that the 140 hectares farm was burnt following reported disagreements with the locals over compensation for the land which was originally owned by the state government.
The Gwer East Local Government Chairman, Emmanuel Ortserga, who confirmed the incident at the weekend said the fire was a deliberate act by hoodlums.
Reacting today in a press release by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said: “the local and state governments, including the security agencies in the state, have taken up the issue, with a view to fishing out the perpetrators and prosecution”.
The former President thanked those who had called him to show concern over the incident.
Similarly, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has ordered full-scale investigation in the fire incident.
Ortom insisted that no act of sabotage would be tolerated by the government, adding that his administration had a deliberate policy to encourage local and foreign investors, especially in the agricultural sector.
