JUST IN: Crisis Deepens Within Lagos Labour Party as Former Chairman, Executives Face Suspension

The Labour Party in Lagos State has announced the suspension of its former state Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, and Sam Okpala over allegations of gross misconduct and violation of the party’s constitution.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that in addition, the party also dissolved all Local Government Ward Executive Committees in the state.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday, May 11, 2025, and signed by Rotimi Odunaike, Chairman of the Lagos State Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, and Dorcas I. Omorodion, Secretary of the committee.

According to the statement, Pastor Ekong is suspended for six months for holding the offices of state chairman and national financial secretary simultaneously, which constitutes a breach of the party’s constitution.

Additionally, all members of the former state executive committee have been suspended for six months due to their involvement in anti-party activities.

Also announcing the dissolution, The Caretaker Committee noted that “All the Local Government and Ward Executive Committees in Lagos State appointed by the Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong led Exco are hereby dissolved and their members suspended for six months for anti-party activities, with immediate effect”.
