JUST IN: Drama As DSS, Prison Services Go Physical Over Custody Of Emefiele (Photos)

EKO HOT BLOG reports that at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, a curious drama is developing between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS).

The bone of contention is about the custody of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

EDITOR’S PICKS

Emefiele was arraigned today by the DSS on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The court granted him bail for N20 million with one surety. While his lawyers work to meet these bail conditions, a dramatic scene is unfolding within the court premises.

The DSS and NCS are currently locked in a dispute over who will retain custody of the defendant.

Vehicles from both agencies are stationed near the court’s entrance, marking their presence.

According to sources that spoke with Vanguard, there are indications that the DSS may attempt to re-arrest Emefiele, despite the court granting him bail.

This is coming after the counsel to Emefiele, Joseph Daudu, fears the DSS intends to re-arrest his client.

Daudu informed the court of his fears regarding the DSS’s plans.

Daudu indicated to the court that they intend to complete the bail conditions promptly to ensure Emefiele’s freedom.

The judge, somewhat uncertain in light of the circumstances, asked Daudu to allow him to address other matters before the court and said he would return to Daudu’s concerns later.
