JUST IN: FG Orders Shut Down Of Mobile Phone Services In Zamfara

  • FG has ordered the shut down of mobile phone services in Zamfara State.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Federal Government (FG) has ordered all telecom operators to shut down their networks in Zamfara State.

The order was made known via a letter to all telecom operators by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Umar Garba Danbatta, on Friday.

Danbatta, in the letter, noted that the latest development was one of the strategies taken by security operatives in curbing banditry ravaging the state.

He stated, “The pervading security situation in Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shutting down of all telecommunications service in the state from today September 03, 2021.

“This is to enable relevant security agencies to carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state, in line with the requirement, Globacom is hereby directed to shut down all sites in Zamfara State and any site(s) in neighboring state that could provide telecommunications service in Zamfara State.

“The site shutdown is for two weeks (September 03 – 17, 2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required,” the NCC boss wrote.

EKOHOTBLOG had last Friday reported that the Zamfara State Government announced some new measures aimed at tackling the insecurity bewildering the state.

The new measures included the ban on all filling stations from selling fuel in the state except in Gusau, the state capital, and the headquarters of the local government areas, and the suspension of all weekly markets across the state.

The state government also suspended the transportation of livestock to and from the state, noting that the transportation of food across Zamfara and outside the state must be verified.
